It's Official
Sunday - nine days ago - I revealed to the youth group that I am officially moving to Minnesota on September 1st. Of all the reasons to leave a youth ministry, I cannot really think of a better one than the one I have - I mean, I am getting married, and we will be back within a few years (of course that don't matter to most of the students who will be off in college by that time). However, I am still leaving a youth ministry that I have been responsible for developing from the ground up in the past nine months.Their reactions? Nothing. They had a few cursory questions regarding who will be taking it over - but no definitive reactions one way or another.
This can only mean one of two things - either they're shutting down as a defense mechanism (common in high school students), or they're actually doing okay. And I don't know which one it is. On one hand I would like to believe that they actually are okay. I have always been very open with my kids. They have known about the whole engagement process. They've seen us fall in love and seen my side of the story.
But - then again - only 5 students showed up on Sunday - the lowest number we've had in months. Coincidence? I hope so!
